We left the Diamond Rim Road (about 7300 ft) following an old trail toward Boone Spring. The notch in the mountain in the distance is Split Mountain. We have 10 miles to go to reach the trailer, near the base of those distant mountains.
Boone Spring is at 6900 ft. Ranchers have troughed the spring, which was convenient for us. You can see the trickle of spring water coming into the tank through a pipe. This represents a big spring for arid country.
Daisy asked permission to enter the tank.
Then she splashed in for a swim. The photo caught her bow wake as she plopped into the water.
Everyone enjoyed a good long drink.
The loop ride ended up being 30 miles and a whopping 6000 feet of elevation gain and loss, because of all the ups and downs in the canyons. We were glad to see the trailer after 6.5 hours of riding time.
I love the saddles in the range. They usually have such deep histories of who traveled through them, for what and when. Especially in the west.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Janie! Daisy deserves a tub soak!
ReplyDeleteWhat adorable creatures for friendship and companies you there Janie. Thank you for giving us more insights about yourselves with Daisy, Boss, Mischief and Coco. Love the interesting life you lead and the never ending trails you follow. Love the trout as well. Great for barbecue wrapped in banana leaves with coriander, spring onion or shallots and tomatoes for insert. Ahhh the aroma!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sure is beautiful country. What a trooper Daisy is, that is a long walk for a dog.
ReplyDeleteI think I may have joined Daisy in the tank. That was a very long ride/day for you all.
ReplyDeleteI like your new header:-)
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed seeing horses drink - so very different to dogs or cats and much more elegant.
I can see why they call it split mountain. It looks longer than 10 miles over there. You, Steve, the horses, and Daisy must be in great shape.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lonnnnng ride.
ReplyDeleteSo nice that the spring was there; that Daisy loves her swimming!
Definitely a long day, Janie! I LOVE how Daisy cannot resist jumping into water. What a gal!
ReplyDeleteHow polite of Daisy to ask permission for her swim. You guys just keep pushing your rides longer and higher!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery and it looks like Daisy and the horses really enjoyed the water!
ReplyDeleteHI Janie, Looks like both Daisy and the horses enjoyed that water.. That was a long ride--30 miles and 6.5 hours of riding time... Wow!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
You had a very long ride, but the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. I'm glad to see that Daisy knows how to enjoy a snow patch and a spring.
ReplyDeleteSix and a half hours is a long time to do anything let alone be on the back of a horse!! Crazy! I think it is so sweet the way Daisy splashes around and the horses don't even pay attention. They are all so close.
ReplyDeletei love your pix of your scenery - keep them coming!
