King of the Road

In Yellowstone National Park, when does a 2000 pound American bison cross the road? Any time he wants to!
In fact, he's free to walk down the center stripe for miles if he so chooses and traffic must defer to him.
In Yellowstone, bison and other wildlife always have the right of way. Isn't it grand, giving the wild creatures a chance to rule for a change?

  4. Wow! I've never seen one of those but on the back of a nickel. I'd love to see Yellowstone, and I always think of the rivers and geysers ... but now I'll add to Bison to the list.

  7. That's a big fellow! About 100 miles from here we have herds of bison. In 41 years of driving back and forth (used to live on the other side of there) I have yet to see one! Aren't you lucky.

  10. Great photos ,...I wouldn't argue with the Bison either :-)

Reminds me of driving through Sparks, NV and meeting an elephant walking down the street. The Nugget Casino used to walk their elephants to the showroom, down the main street, a couple of times a day.

  14. Absolutely! When I was there in the 80's, there was a moose that was off the side of the road & I remember my grand-parents telling me that they have the right of way in Yellowstone!!! Who's gonna make them move, I wondered! hehehehe

  19. Once in a Wild Park in Denmark a rhinoceros blokked the path in front of me. I had to wait in my (little) car till he decided to walk away.
