The top of Lake Mountain (above, 9000 feet) is beautiful in mid-May, with a snow-covered Marsh Peak in the background. The ground is still a bit soggy,
but the grass is green, the aspens are leafing out.
Gull Lake is a sparkling treat for a certain canine member of our group. (Daisy, of course!)
Springbeauty bloom prolifically under the aspen trees, a sure sign that the snow has only recently melted.
An elk herd rumbles through the trees as we approach. A few pause to look back before melting into the aspen.
A little lower on the trail, Indian paintbrush
and balsamroot show their colors.
Oh how beautiful is spring in the mountains.
