Desert Blooms


A desert flower is a treasure, and all the more beautiful for its rarity.  In the third week of April, Capitol Reef had these treasures on display:
Claret Cup Cactus

Indian Paintbrush
Globemallow
Utah Penstemon
Penstemon
Primrose
 
Fremont's Mahonia
Utah Serviceberry
tasty bunch grass
Milkvetch?
We also saw remnants of treasures past in several sections of fossilized tree trunk:

  6. What a wonderful post, Janie. I love seeing the wildflowers from the desert --and I'm so glad that you know the names... Wow---awesome!!!

    We had Indian Paintbrush in Texas --and it would bloom when the Texas Bluebonnets bloomed... So pretty --together!!!!

  12. gorgeous cactus! you have more flowers than we do. our desert bloom is PUNY this year. very dry. a smattering of paintbrush, and I saw one whole globemallow plant. that's about it!
