'Twas a cool but beautiful day on the Green River, below Flaming Gorge Dam and above Little Hole.
Snow on the boardwalk never stops a fisherman determined to take advantage of the spring Baetis hatch.
Prepared with a #20 blue quill, about 1 size larger than the naturals, Steve and Daisy cast to a riser.
Fish on! "I'll bring it in," Daisy volunteers, her tense body pointing at the trout. "Just let me at it."
"I'm swimming as fast as I can! Which way did it go?"
"Ah, there it is. Can I touch it? Please? I'm sure it wants to play with me."
"It's so interesting and squirmy! I want it!"
Unfortunately for Daisy, no one kept the brown trout. Steve let it go to be caught another day. Unharmed from its brief time on the line, the trout immediately darted off into deep water.
Poor Daisy! She so wanted to play with the trout. But at least she had a good excuse to get into the water. Steve and Daisy were in a beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place, beautiful photographs, magic land:) Greetings
ReplyDeleteOh my. How I wish I'd been there flyrod in hand. I'll be Baron would have like to follow Daisy's lead as well....:)

ReplyDeletethat was a lovely fish. They do grow them big in the Green River. I love how clear the water is.
ReplyDeleteWow---gorgeous place... I love the next to the last photo --with Daisy looking at her 'new friend'... She just wanted to play with the trout!!!!! ha ha
ReplyDeleteWas it bitter bold there? Steve is covered from head to toe.... Daisy doesn't look cold though--even after being in that COLD water.
Hugs,
Betsy
That pleading look on Daisie's face said it all. Great post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place, I love the colors of the water, blue from a distance and green close up. It does look cold, but Daisy doesn't seem to mind swimming in it!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by the early hatch as well as by Daisy Dog's attempt at fetching.
ReplyDeleteI love that boardwalk. Better than knocking about on the rocks. That was one big trout Steve and Daisy caught. Kudos for letting it go.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of bird retrieving dogs but never fish retrievers. Leave it to Daisy.
ReplyDeleteHave you read A River Runs Through It? It's all I know about fly fishing but what beautiful accounts of it!
ReplyDeleteDaisy is so cute. My JRT would have been a hazard if I'd tried fishing with her. She did have basic obedience training but if there was anything like fetch involved, well, her enthusiasm knew no bounds. She loved to swim, too, but she was no lab. With all her muscles she didn't float at all and always took on a lot of water. lol
Gorgeous fish! I could almost smell it cooking when you told me it was released. Lovely area.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful countryside...the lake looks so refreshing....I know Sophie would be in there in a flash.
