Flicker Update

We went back to see the northern flicker nest today.  You can see the nest cavity front and center.  On June 25,  they looked like this:
To hear the buzzing sound they made then, click here.
Since it has been 19 days, we thought the babies might be grown and gone, but at least two are still in the nest:
They look fully feathered and ready to fly any time.
Mr. and Mrs. Northern Flicker were nearby, squawking at us. They are good parents, still watching over their youngsters.

  5. Just imagine how many bugs and grubs the parents had to bring in for these babies to grow so large. Thank you for the follow-up. This is neat.

  6. So glad you went back again. Looking rather crowded in that nest for those fine feathered flickers.

  9. Thanks for the flicker news! Given the economy, Mom & Pop might be feeding these two grown kids for awhile...

  12. Nineteen days seems like a long time to have babies still in the nest! I guess being a flicker parent is quite a job.
