Driving on 191 north of Vernal, Utah, we looked down on Red Fleet Reservoir.
From the same vantage point, we saw a herd of elk grazing on grassland that has been restored after a phosphate plant strip-mined it.
The spring grass must be sweet in that location, because we nearly always see elk there at this time of year.
Your first picture is absolutely magnificent. It's good to see the elk enjoying reclaimed land from a strip mine.
ReplyDeletewhat a great shot, it's always fun to spot a large herd.
ReplyDeleteHi Janie, Love that first picture. The view is awesome....
ReplyDeleteThat's a large group of elk, isn't it????? I SO enjoyed seeing the elk last Fall in North Carolina.
Hugs,
Betsy
I saw (and photographed) a big herd like this near my son's house in Evergreen, CO.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA phosphate mine? We have lots of those mid peninsula near Tampa. If only we could figure out how to use less of that stuff our waters would be so much clearer.
