The first ride was an easy 6-miler starting from Moon Lake trailhead, going up toward Brown Duck Lake.
He did like eating some fresh, wet sedge on his lunchtime break.
Steve is back to his old tricks, taking photos from Boss's back:Since I was taking this photo from Mischief's back, it's a little fuzzy, as was the one Steve took of the yellow monkeyflowers.
A woodpecker fussed at us as we passed through the woods:He may have been protecting a nest. I think he's a hairy woodpecker because of his long beak. Here he is in upside down mode:
Fun to see you and Steve back on the horses, Janie! Great photos as always! Hope you had a fun day and that you have an even "funner" weekend! Enjoy!

I'll bet it feels really good to get back in the saddle. Mischief will get used to it, that lazy horse.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you and Steve back in the saddle again, Janie! I had a Hairy Woodpecker just outside my window this week - maybe he flew to me from you. I'll look forward to more trail rides with you.
ReplyDeletelooks like a fun ride...
ReplyDeleteGood to see you and Steve enjoying your rides again. I'm sure Mischief will get used to "working" again, LOL! What amazing woodpeckers you have in your part of the world. Have a wonderful weekend. Jo
ReplyDeleteYay! Except now it's gonna be tricky to convince you guys to meet us for a wussy old hike, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteJanie: Neat look at the horseback ride in God's country.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are back riding. I wonder how that feels. Never ridden once.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting on your two to get the horses out.... I'm sure that Mischief would rather have stayed around in the pasture though!!!! ha
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures... Love the woodpecker ones....
Hugs,
Betsy
I bet it feels wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWe have downies here too. They really get around, don't they?
Glad you are back to riding again, a good change of pace.
ReplyDeleteThe woodpeckers in my yard fuss at me too...I think they are just cranky. ;)
It's nice to see the horses in your photos again. We have woodpeckers in our backyard tree all the time. They are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSteve looks pretty athletic there taking the photo. I hope he keeps his cinch strap tight.
ReplyDeleteHi Janie, You look so cool on your white steed, where is your prince? Its opposite day my 7y old granddaughter would say. A good way to see nature, you spotted a pretty bird and interesting wildflowers.
ReplyDeleteHorse riding one of the nice pass times. The shots are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe 'easy rider' again on move! Gorgeous pictures Janie. Who is the photographer?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting back in the saddle!
ReplyDeleteThe last picture is so beautiful
ReplyDeleteVery pleasing for you all, even Mischief (probably) once he'd tasted the fresh wet sedge.
ReplyDeleteI think both Steve and you are good at photos from horseback. I hope Mischief is feeling better about these rides.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day to be on a horse!
ReplyDeleteThanks for you comments Janie. I've been posting in advance since I only have internet access about once per week here in Belgium ... and thus haven't really been able to keep up with my normal list.
ReplyDeleteYou and Steve are really good at taking shots while sitting in the saddle. And no harm came to any wildlife in the shooting :)
ReplyDeleteI think the subtitle for this post could be "It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This." And I have to hand it to Steve for not falling off the horse while shooting a photo!
ReplyDeleteBorn to ride, yous are.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're back in the saddle. I enjoy your rides out and about the Uintah Basin
