Starlings' Party

The starlings congregated on the windowsill this morning.  Since the temperature was minus 10 degrees F, they were looking for a spot of warmth.
"What's up in there," this guy wanted to know.  "Can I come inside?"
"No?  How rude," he seems to say.
"Can't you see it's so cold that my brother's beak is freezing?"

  2. Wonderful photos of these birds. We have starlings as well. They tend to be a bit bossy at the bird table but I love seeing their flocks in flight at dusk.
Brrr...that is cold--we rarely get anything as cold here (but rule nothing out!) So far it has been a relatively mild winter and we have had no snow yet and only occasional hard frost.

  6. Good photos of those cold birds. I always wonder how birds keep their feet warm when it is so cold. This below zero stuff is a challenge for everybody. Makes you want to give those animals a warm place to shelter.

  10. Great photos. I feel bad that they are out in the cold, but I guess Mother Nature gives them some kind of extra protection. Cute little guys.

  13. I'm fascinated that your birds survive that weather. Are your starlings flecked or is that snow on their feathers?

  18. That is very cold indeed ... you wonder how wildlife makes it outside in that sort of weather. Or probably the opposite is true: why is it we need so much climate control?

  20. How nice of the starlings to come pose for you by the windows. The light tips to their feathers makes them look frosted. Nice captures Janie.

  24. Not a big starling fan (weren't they introduced to U.S. by the Shakespeare fan?), but these young birds are cute. I suppose there is some point at which we quit trying to fight invasive species (starlings, dandelions, knapweed, ...) and accept them as "naturalized." We could probably learn something from my Indian students' perspective.
