Soaring with Raptors

On a windy, warm day at the end of September, raptors soar on the thermals over the mountains.

A hawk glides over aspens.

And then there are 3.

No matter where I point the camera, an abundance of birds are playing in the wind.

Finally I see this hawk land.  I only have my 4X zoom, but I sneak close enough to get a photo before he flies.

  2. Well, shot!!

On my commute, I would see as many as a dozen hawks--sometimes soaring, but ussually watching from the highest poitn on the highest tree in their area (even if sometimes the tree was a light pole.)

  5. It is lovely to capture all those birds...on camera...there must be something about September, or the blue of the sky; they seem to be so happy flying free...I would be too!

  6. Very nice captures of the birds. I've seen a lot of hawks lately, but no decent photos. They are always too far away.

  21. Wonderful shots of the hawks, and such a lovely clear blue sky, the trees are interesting in that one has leaves that almost looks pink, but they are probably yellow and then the tree on the bottom shot is quite bare.

  24. You got great pictures of the hawks. Is it my imagination or is the sky bluer in Utah than in some of the other states?
