A Thunderhead Grows

At the Mill Hollow trailhead in Indian Canyon, the grass was lush, the cottonwoods were in new, full leaf, and the sky was nearly cloudless at 10AM.
We rode over the creek and through the woods,
to the top of the ridge.
Over the Bad Land Cliffs, some serious clouds were building.

After we'd ridden another 30 minutes along the ridge, a thunderhead was in full flower, and clouds were moving in all around us.
Time to head for home.

  3. A beautiful morning to ride over hills and through lush woodland. The snow white clouds are great to watch how they grow from nothing until they are ready to burst. Are you getting lots of storms at this time of year?

  12. Yes, get out of there quickly, Janie! Don't the storm clouds blow over the ridges before you know it? Your pictures of the ride are wonderful.

  13. Titania, yes, we've been getting a lot of spring storms. Thunderstorms are common in the high country through July.
Esther, we got back to the truck just as raindrops started to fall, so our timing on return was pretty good.

  21. It's fun seeing how green it's getting in your world. The sky was fantastic even if it did mean time to head home.

  22. Hi Janie... Glad the thunderheads warned you... Did you make it home before it rained???? OR---did it just go away and not rain at all (like it so often happens)?
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  25. This is the way I remember the late spring skys over the Colorado Rockies. Blue sky in the morning and thunderstorms in the mountains by noon. Then we'd send them out to Kansas and Nebraska by 4:00.

  26. The cloud looks like an atomic cloud, like in that short lived tv-series Jericho.
