As a pup, Daisy learned that cactus needles hurt. She stepped on a prickly pear once and had to be de-spined.
Never again.
Now she tiptoes through the cactus -- or races through when she has something interesting to chase -- and somehow manages to watch where she steps.

She's become a wily desert canine, not to be outwitted by pointy plants.

Daisy is just too cute !!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that mine are nowmore wary of fire ants after being stung on the nose a couple of times :-)
Those cactus are absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. Daisy couldn't have picked a better place to pose for a picture.
ReplyDeleteGreat photograph. I love your desert dog.
ReplyDeleteThat Daisy is very smart. Carson also learned the hard way when he sniffed a cholla. The flowering prickly pears are marvelous. Have you tasted the flowers?
ReplyDeleteSmart doggie, Janie... But of course, you all wouldn't have anything BUT a smart dog, would you???
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy
Awww, I love Daisy! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Sweet photos!
ReplyDeleteI guess she learned her lesson.
Great image of the cactus too.
My post is here: Carletta’s Captures.
Yikes.. brave dog. those flowers are gorgeous though.
ReplyDeleteFun Blog! I thoroughly enjoyed scanning through your posts. I'll Be Bahk.
ReplyDeleteDaisy looks like a fun dog--and smart, too!
ReplyDeleteGood for her, smart dog! ;-) I love pics of her, she is just so danged adorable! (and those cactus flowers are gorgeous too)
ReplyDeleteDaisy is adorable and I'm sorry she had to learn such a hard lesson but she's a clever dog if she can run through the desert and not get needles in her paws. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteThat's a hard way to learn! Ouch ... but for the record, they are my favorite plant, or one of them: we even have on here in south Florida. They grow everywhere.
ReplyDeletesmart daisy!
ReplyDeleteHave started a new meme Pet Pride where you can display your or your friends' pets every week beginning every Sunday! Do join in and share your pet pride with the world!
what a clever girl!
ReplyDeletewhat a beauty and well camouflaged in that lanscape too. hugs to you janie.
ReplyDeleteClever creatures, aren't they? Especially when it comes to avoiding painful experiences. Have you had her through the rattlesnake aversion classes? They sound so unpleasant for the dog, and yet, lifesaving. I think I'd probably have to do it, if I lived in a place where there were rattlers. :(
ReplyDeleteshe combs the desert well
ReplyDeleteI have a Daisy too... though I doubt she would ever be so apt at running through cacti. She is more of a couch potato rather than a desert dodger.
ReplyDeleteDaisy is obviously very smart and a great companion on your journeys.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are beautiful! I have never seen desert blooms. And Daisy is very smart indeed.
ReplyDeleteGood for Daisy...what a smart girl. Just as with humans, I guess, the learning process can be painful.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty to see so many cactus in bloom.
ReplyDeleteI think Daisy is the most physically fit dog I have ever seen...and no wonder, with all the hikes she takes with you. :)
Daisy is such a cutie pie! AND smart too.
ReplyDeleteI would be covered in pricklys if I had no shoes on. ;0
Beautiful dog. It's a good thing she learned her lesson.
ReplyDeleteDaisy is one smart dog.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how smart she is. What a good dog. Roscoe looks just like her. He is not a good dog. :) (Completely my fault, not his).
ReplyDeleteLove that second picture of Boss cantering! Beautiful! I'm sure Sheba would have to learn the pricky pear lesson the hard way as well... She had to learn that baboons never keep their promises the same way as Daisy and the pricky pears, despite her owners many warnings... :-)
