Beneath the Eaves

For the last week, I've noticed bits of mud and grass scattered near the back door. I thought Daisy was the guilty party. Then I looked up.
I had seen swallows flitting in and out of the garage, but the closed doors at night must have discouraged them. So, they settled on constructing their nest on the back porch, on the bricks, just under the eaves. They'll have great protection from the weather.
Apparently, activity through the door doesn't bother them. They're still building.

  15. The Chinese think that the swallow's nest made from their spitum is very good for the lungs, People harvest them and sell them for a lot of money.

In Parts of Malaysia, apparently people deliberately leave old houses vacant so the swallows can come to make their houses.

Came to your site Via Scenic Sunday.

  16. I love the swallows! They are fun to watch, the way they flit around... we had several building nests on our front porch last summer. I will say they DO make a bit of a mess on the floor. :)
