Cowboy Corral

Can you see the old corral constructed of juniper trunks and limbs?
Steve, Coco and Daisy are standing in the middle of it.
Here are a couple of views from the last few miles of the Spur Road:
We rode 14 miles (28 round trip) down the Spur "road" to reach this view.  We stopped driving when the road got too bad for a horse trailer, and the 14 miles of riding didn't take us all the way to the northeast end of the Spur overlooking the Green River.  Time constraints, lack of water, and generally tired explorers called out "enough" for one day.
A high clearance 4WD can probably negotiate all of this old road safely, but we didn't see anyone trying it.  Then again, we didn't see anyone else trying it on horseback, either!

  6. 28 miles seems like a heck of a long ride. Daisy probably walked almost twice that much. Interesting coral and Awesome scenery.

  7. That's an austere landscape for sure. Interesting to run in those old landmarks of those former homesteaders.

  8. While the old cowboy corral is interesting, the landscape is absolutely fascinating. It's stark and beautiful at the same time.

  11. I have to agree with Gaelyn! I am thinking 28 kilometers and then realize it is miles which equals
45 kiometers which equals a sore butt which ever way you calculate it! Thanks for sharing Janie!

  16. When I think of how crowded our cities are, it's hard to imagine there are huge expanses of land where sometimes there are only two people, two horses and one dog.

  18. This is a great series of posts, Janie--outstanding scenery, right out of a John Ford film.
