We rode north of Strawberry Reservoir in Goldilocks (just right!) weather today:
A neighbor came along with his big quarter horse, and we all had a most successful outing. (On a ride, "successful" generally means no one got hurt. In this case, though, the ride was successful in every way.)
Coco made a friend:
The views were outstanding from the ridges, as always:
Coco performed well. He did much better on stream crossings. He didn't even need Mischief to coach him, although Mischief was ready and willing.
One surprise was seeing this:
We were riding past a camping spot near a road when one of the horses jumped at the strange sight. We went closer and talked to the chain saw artist for awhile. His carving was unfinished, so he gave us a little demonstration of his working style:
It was fun to watch, and fortunately, the horses didn't seem upset by the noise. They just grazed, enjoying the break.
You have the best adventures! Does he sculpt self portraits of dogs, or horses, or people on horses with dogs in toe? Or only bears?
ReplyDeleteWow Janie.... A great ride PLUS a demonstration by a chain saw artist... How great is that... Looks like Coco did much better... And I'm glad he met a new friend.... Love the flowers in the 3rd picture from the bottom... Glad you had good weather also... It's still very hot and humid here. Yuk!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Robert is right...you two DO have the best adventures! These photos are wonderful, as usual. The panoramic views are breathtaking...and I absolutely love the shot of the two horses nuzzling.
ReplyDeleteThis is glorious, great views and entertainment. Think Boss is going to be jealous.
ReplyDeleteOh I do so enjoy going out on these rides with you, Janie. Coco has risen to the occasion even making a new friend. What an interesting artist. Glad the horses weren't bothered by the chainsaw. We also rate our rides (albeit on our "iron horse") as successful if no-one is hurt and there is no break-down in the motorcycle itself. So far, in eight years, we've had all successful trips, praise God! Have a wonderful weekend in your beautiful world. Jo

ReplyDeleteI didn't expect to see this type of bear when I read your title, but they are certainly interesting. I once saw a chainsaw artist at work -- it was fascinating. I'm glad Coco is coming along so well.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that Coco is doing well.
ReplyDeleteI adore those little bears!
I just love the pictures of the wildflowers! Looks like you had another fabulous day exploring. Isn't fun when you come across something unexpected? Who knew you would have the treat of seeing a chain saw artist.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day!
Catching up with you, Janie - I was surprised by the new member of your clan. Glad Professor Mischief is willing to help show the young one a few tricks. Looks as though they've become friends already.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Pics!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting the stream crossings down. Seen a rodeo or two at such places, especially on the wooden decked bridges the Forest Service uses here. Love your observation of Goldilocks weather too--nothing like a bluebird day up in the hills.
ReplyDeleteWhat a ride. I enjoy watching chainsaw artists at work. Is there any other art as noisy? Maybe wrought iron work?

ReplyDeleteChain saw art is so interesting and takes a good amount of skill (and coordination!) Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous scenery as usual! What a bonus to meet the chain artist. We saw a chain artist do this with ice.
ReplyDeletehow fun, we know a chain saw artist that lives down the street. He came and cut down our mulberry tree and made a mountain lion out of the trunk. He kept it to sell though--it would have cost us $3000 to buy it back. He did give us some rings to make some clocks with.
