Big Country

Huge open spaces and vast quantities of public land are great advantages of living out West.  We feel like explorers of 100 years ago when we ride into the mountains.  Above, Coco and Steve trek through a meadow at 11,000 feet.
Mischief and I make our way through tall grass near a high country lake:
Daisy follows where Coco and Steve lead:
We rode about 17 miles and returned to the trailer hungry and tired:
but never too weary to enjoy a magnificent mountain sunset:

  1. I really like these wide open spaces. It must be thrilling to ride in those mountains under that sky. I like the sunset as well.

  4. Oh ---I'd love to be there doing what you two are doing... It has to be fabulous--just being out there in nature like that... What a gorgeous place... AND--the sunset just made the day, didn't it????

    Hugs,

  6. Big Country yes, but also high. Up on your perch (i.e., the mountains and your horse) the enormity of the land increases a hundred fold, if not more. I could use a horse and some open country right about now. I live that life vicariously though your blog. Thanks for sharing!

  9. You live in such wonderful country and it's good that you take the time to appreciate it. (Sorry, that sounds really 'teacherly')
Somehow I have missed your recent posts so it was a shock when I read of Coco. Quickly, I backtracked and discovered that Coco is an 'also' and that Boss is still around and will still enjoy your outings. Coco is quite lovely and seems to be a quick learner.
Lovely post, Janie, as ever :-)

  13. Big Country indeed! I would love to look at that scenery every day! The light on the mountains is lovely, as is the sunset with those soft pastels. The horses grazing by the trailer is also a peaceful sight.

  18. I'll agree, there is so much wilderness here in Utah it's easy to feel lost in time.
