Golden Days

Last weekend, the aspens were near their peak autumn colors. We rode the horses from a trailhead at 8800 feet (2700 m) to a viewpoint at 10,100 feet (3100 m).
The air was hazy, perhaps due to smoke from a fire somewhere, but you can see the Wasatch mountains in the distance.  You can see patches of aspen gold on the hills.  (Click to enlarge.)
We saw the occasional maple tree, dressed in red.
Perhaps 75 % of the aspen above 9000 feet have turned gold.
This little pond provided a nice swim for Daisy.
Between the trees, you can see Currant Creek Peak.
We explored 10 miles of territory.  Spirits brightened by color and beauty, we followed Daisy...
...all the way back to the trailer, also wreathed in gold.

  2. Janie, how gorgeous! That 2nd photo almost looks like a watercolor, perhaps due to the haze. And that little pond is absolutely beautiful with the golden aspens nearby! :) What a great weekend you guys had!

  3. Oh Janie, I love those yellow aspens. That one picture with the aspens showing up in the water as reflections is fabulous. I love the Maples also when they turn. We have a gorgeous day here today--but not much color yet.

Thanks for sharing your colors with us. WOW!!!
    Hugs,

  7. Very pretty colours. I'm surprised Utah is so much more colorful than Ontario at the moment but you did say you were at a high altitude.

  9. The aspen is absolutely gorgeous, but so are all of your pictures. I think the view is tremendous even with the haze. I'm glad Daisy is such a good guide.

  15. That second shot looks like the back of Timpanogas. The haze gives the long shots quite a dreamy look. I'll bet the smoke is coming from the fire in Grand Teton Park.

Answer to comment about Potato Harvest. The hours are long and the work is dirty. It is a race against Mother Nature to get the crop in before the ground freezes. My daughter spent one year working in a snowmobile suit long past dark to earn her minimum wage. When things go well, though, it can be fun.

  17. My God but those aspens are stunning! How long do your falls last. In Minnesota, we get about a month (if we're lucky) of color. And then brown. Till first snowfall, which is well worth the wait!
