I took this photo over the weekend after Steve pointed out the plume. Doesn't it look a bit like a tornado? But the sky was clear and the wind was still. It turned out to be just someone's trash fire, soon dissipated. No sirens, and no reason to panic -- quite fortunately for us and the farmhouses that were closer. We've had serious fires in Utah, so we don't take them lightly.

A nice catch - I'm just glad that it wasn't the infamous "Mushroom"-cloud.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's strange! It doesn't look like smoke! Thanks for your visit! And your comment!
ReplyDeleteWow at first glance I thought that was a tornado, yikes. Awesome photo.

Weird looking shape tho', I see why it caught your attention.
ReplyDeleteReally. A trash fire. Wow. Around here outdoor fires have not been allowed for a long time. Decades.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a tornado.
Abraham Lincoln's SkyWatch
OH, for sure it would have frightened me at first! I'm glad it was smoke. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy Sky Watch photo is at
East Gwillimbury Wow
That is crazy looking. Awesome photo
ReplyDeleteSo cool! People often burn things in their fields here but it never creates such smoke tornadoes! :-) What could they be burning?
ReplyDeleteI think yours will be the most unusual SkyWatch Friday! How very strange!
ReplyDeleteThat is so weird but what a wonderful image for skywatch
ReplyDeleteCool shot. It really does look like a tornado.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, Janie... I would have seen that picture and said that it was a tornado... Unbelievable!!!! As someone said, it looks like a great big mushroom.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
My first thought was a tornado also, glad it was not. Good sky watch.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting--what a great shot!
ReplyDeletePretty cool affect it had on the sky. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was that thing that fell out of the sky, started a fire?
ReplyDeleteWow! What a catch. Does look sort of like a tornado, or a dust devil, or smoke. Must have been a very still day with a bit of inversion.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, the minute I looked at it, I heard that music in my head. You know, that music where "Mrs Gulch" is riding the bicycle after she has taken Toto!
ReplyDeleteGlad it wasn't a twister =8^0

Wow what a great capture, and I am glad it wasnt a tornado, or you could have got scary.
ReplyDeleteHappy SWF.
Wow. What an awesome picture. I love it.
ReplyDeleteLOL oh wow, if only all funnel clouds were this undeadly! Great capture.
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly an interesting form and colour. People here get jittery when they see smoke after all the devastation the fires caused. This year we were lucky we had a normal sub-tropical summer, humid, rain, clouds and hot, wonderful!(At least where I live.)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend Janie and thanks for your comment.
Does look like a tornado...unusual but pretty sky...
ReplyDeleteWhen we see something like that around here we start making phone calls to make sure the neighborhood isn't burning down!
ReplyDeletelooks so cool! like a genie in a bottle.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I see a similar , but white steam plume like this everyday coming from a plant near Utah Lake...a constant reminder of human/environmental interactions...sigh.
ReplyDeletewhat a fabulous colour, a real wow.
