Enchantment in the Hinterlands

Reaching our favorite San Rafael Desert trailheads involves driving over an hour on dirt roads, but the scenery along the way makes up for slow travel.  Above is a stitched photo of the Henry Mountains as seen across the vast San Rafael Desert.
Here's a close-up of the red rock formation on the right hand side of the first photo.  Does it remind you of anything?
Steve thinks the one on the left looks like a locomotive.
Highway 24 is the nearest paved road.  I always look for this landmark as we near the turnoff.  What does it look like to you?
I think of an enchanted castle.  Certainly, it marks the turnoff to a most enchanting part of Utah.

  5. I love the 2nd red rock photo. Made me think of people, sort of a family group and a guard of somekind. That too weird? Wouldn't be my first time!

  7. I camped in the Swell once over spring break. We had an unexpected snow storm and barely got out in time. I was with girlfriends. (This was the days before cell phones and weather apps!) I like your stitched photo - it shows the expansive views.

  11. The landscape reminds me of ancient cities in decay...except much more beautiful. I think Steve is right about the locomotive, though.

  15. As a kid I used to think the rock formations in south central Utah were magical. Been to many years since I've seen them.

  23. If you are exercising every day, the fat you burn will be
harnessed into muscle. You could always join a fitness related group on Facebook, though.
To keep one motivated it is important to alternate the activities after one to two weeks.
