Last of the Green

We went for a ride on Dry Canyon Ridge.  The aspen are still green, but it won't be long before the hillside turns gold.
The serviceberries are loaded with fruit.  Native Americans considered these berries a staple and dried them for use all year long.  Birds and other wildlife also enjoy these berries. We've tried them, but they seem very bland to us.  I guess our expectations are too great, or we're just plain spoiled.
We climbed some steep hills,
and reached 10,400 feet.  Daisy and Coco seem to have some communication going.
Daisy takes a swim in Baum Lake.  Maybe Coco's thinking about it.  But not with the saddle on, please!

  1. Water's always a highlight on any trip ... probably especially so in the arid west (and on such high ground)? You should play a joke on Thanksgiving and bake a service berry pie (or at least say you are), and you know the old trick, all it takes is one of them in there to make it a service berry pie ... the rest can be apples!

  6. Service berries have never been one of my favorites.
If our nights stay so cool we'll soon be seeing the aspen gold.

  8. It's one of life's joys to see the changing of the seasons. The change starts so slowly and subtly and then it seems there's suddenly an explosion of colour.

  10. Fall is magic time in the mountains. Clean air and crisp days. Too bad it is so short, soon snow will fall.

  11. We've always had a Serviceberry tree wherever we lived. And I never ate one berry. We plant them for the birds.

  12. The trees are starting to turn around here, but it's been so dry that we don't have much pretty green anyway. I like Daisy's way of cooling off.
