A Gallop in the Snow

Even when the sky is gray, horses find something to be excited about - the sound of the neighbor's tractor, or a new herd of cows in the next pasture.
They frolick and play, kick up their heels and snort a bit.
Warmed by the exercise, they return to pawing the snow to reach the grass beneath.  They have plenty of hay, but their instinct to forage is strong.

  4. I have read-heard, that even though horses and cattle have enough hay to eat - they love the dried grass because it has other things that helps them break down the hay they eat.

  5. Oh, what a fun post, Janie! Does remind me of our horses in Montana in the winter. And I have to admit that your gray skies are a lot grayer than mine and I'm going to have to watch the "winter whine"! Love your photos. Give Daisy and Mischief and Boss a big hug! And have a great weekend!

They look like they are having such a good time in the snow.
