I got out to sneak closer for a photograph, but it flew before I got very far. It was a huge bird with a white tail. Its head also appeared to be white.
A bald eagle? If so, it must have been migrating south, because it wasn't close to any body of water at that point. Many bald eagles congregate along the Green River in the winter. Perhaps that was its destination.
It sure looks like an eagle. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to catch a glimpse of the bald eagle? We see a lot of golden eagles around here. One time I went to the grocery store and I kid you not--there was a bald eagle eating some dumped out food off the pavement. He drew quite the audience before flying off. That's the closest I've ever been to a bald eagle.
ReplyDeleteThat's the one thing I enjoy the most about leafless trees.... You can see the gorgeous big birds. Wow--you all got some great pictures.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
what a magnificent beast. There's something so awe inspiring about the big birds of prey, I used to be lucky enough to live near a colony of red kites. I could've watched them for hours.
ReplyDeleteSteve captured the eagle really well considering it was flying away. Great series.
ReplyDeleteJanie, my all-time favourite birds are raptors. You made my day by sharing this post.
ReplyDeleteWe live not far from the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and there are SO many bald eagles - it's BEAUTIFUL!!! A lot of the little hotels in the "river towns" along the highway offer all kinds of "eagle" packages. They sure are a sight to see - that's a great shot by the way! ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic shots of the "eagle"! I love the chance to see them in flight! I got to see one when I happened to be taking a hot air balloon ride and that was amazing -- eye to eye! And your BLUE skies! Wow! that is blue!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Janie!
Sylvia
That certainly looks like an eagle to me. The photos are wonderful. You've done a great job of capturing a majestic bird.
ReplyDeleteYou have the most beautiful blue skies--seems ages since we saw one here!
ReplyDeleteI would call that bird an eagle too. ...Great photos of it taking off into the blue.
Eagles - what a beautiful bird. Your pictures are fantastic and I love to see them.
ReplyDeleteIf it is an eagle, you have done a magnificent job capturing him. I am not good at shooting birds on the wing. I must be on the noisy side.
ReplyDeleteLovely sequence of a magnificent bird.
What a beautiful blue sky you have.Beautiful photos with an eagel in flight.
ReplyDeleteWe both have the same theme today but my bird is not so beautiful.
The bald eagle is my favourite bird, excellent shots.
ReplyDeleteAll the best

These are nifty shots of this majestic bird against the blue and white backdrop. He probably spocked a water hole somewhere with those eagle eyes? Incidently, when you scroll down fast it appears he's flapping his wings, ha-
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful sequence. It is interesting to try and figure out what birds are when they are at a distance and in flight. I'm often not sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sighting Janie. Looks like a bald eagle to me. Good captures for the distance.
ReplyDeleteI finally got my bird feeders filled today and can see a few sparrows and a junko.
I have never tried to photograph an eagle but I know how frustrating it can be to capture hawks with my camera. Their eyesight is far superior to ours and they are so alert that they usually know I'm there before I see them.
ReplyDeleteAt least you caught the bird in flight!
Great capture of the Eagle. I do see the white tail.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful sighting! I've not seen many eagles in my life, and never with a camera close. What majesty you captured!
ReplyDeleteHi Janie, I'm calling that an Eagle! It looks so great flying toward those snow-capped peaks in the last photo - wonderful capture!
ReplyDeleteI saw an eagle the other day, too. Total surprise to me. It was in a tree over the river, so not really out of normal habitat--just had never seen one so close to home before.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Bald Eagle to me too! Believe it or not we saw an eagle while we were driving down highway 40 last week. We figured it was a migrant that probably was headed to or leaving Jordan Lake.
ReplyDeleteI just love the way you recount and narrate everything you encounter with your camera. Interesting, fun, amusing and above all, informative and educational.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't resist reading your About Me over and over and over...especially in regard to your obsession in blogging with an equally hyperactive hubby.
Blog on, Janie!
I know am not much around and I do appreciate your unfailing visit to mine though I appear to be on a hit and run rampage as if I am undergoing earthly tribulation.
Don't worry, when I come to visit yours, it is always Wholesale!
That's how I operate! haha
Great shot. We have eagles who winter within a few miles of Tulsa. I would like to see one. I'm not sure I've ever seen one in the wild.
ReplyDeletePure magic. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteJanie: How wonderful, definitely a Bald Eagle and a wonderful capture.
ReplyDeleteI love that last shot!
ReplyDeleteYour skies are so crisp and blue.
Yes that looks like a bald eagle all right. You did a great job catching him on the fly.
ReplyDeleteGreat Sky captures Janie!
ReplyDeleteI bet you wish you were on your horse instead of in your car.
: )
Great captures Janie!!!! I like the third one more. It must have been difficult to take these shots!!! Thanks for sharing, Have a nice SWF

Seems very nice contrast blue sky and a bald eagle!! I've neber seen it.
ReplyDeleteNice to see it - I have to settle for watching magpies these days.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photographs. A wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteI love to see big birds in flight, I always wonder where they're off to. Great catch for SWF.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like an eagle to me! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteMarvelous photo series of this eagle against those clear BLUE skies ;-)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
They are eye catching. There's a pair that perch in the same place, pretty close to the road, on my way to work. Eagles seem commonplace because of our coinage, but seeing one -- especially as you did in such a scenic spot -- is always breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful sky color.
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing scenery of splendid Nature.
What an amazing bird and must be so majestic, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love birds, because they look to enjoy so much their freedom...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! We see eagles from time time as they migrate up the Mississippi. Quite amazing.
ReplyDeleteDefinite bald--they're on the move. Usually some hang around here through the winter, but if this -30 deg F air ices all the rivers, they'll probalby move on. Maybe they'll come your way.
ReplyDeleteYour blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
