Climbing with B.O.B.

How do you reach the top of Mount Washburn with 4 kids under 7?
A B.O.B. (Baby on Board) stroller helped a lot.  Mom pushed that.
Dad did his part.  I don't know how he did this hike in flip flops!
The trail still has remnants of blacktop, but vehicles are no longer allowed.
The oldest kid hiked the 6 miles round trip and 2000 feet of elevation gain all by herself!  And little bro hiked most of the way, too.  They were awesome.
A cute chipmunk inside Mount Washburn's fire tower scurried around to steal lunch crumbs from the tourists. He was so overfriendly, he was a little scary.
A herd of Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep graciously shared the trail with us.  Some didn't bother to get up from their afternoon nap as we trekked past.
Butterflies and flowers were pretty at the lower altitudes.
After that hike, a big cookie was well-deserved and tasted extra good!

  1. Oh Janie! These are wonderful moments you captured:D I love it!
I remember when our 4 were all under the age of 8...and the way we tried to climb mountains back then...I really don't know if I could do it now:) Troopers. All of them. (especially in flip flops;D)

  2. I love these pictures! That is such a fun hike. Lucky you having the bighorn sheep so close, as long as the sheep are behaving anyway. I bet we saw the same chipmunk eating crumbs. He's a smart one!

  3. what a hike! I'm so proud of the kids and I'm with you on the flip flops. I can't believe the sheep just laid there. They must be used to visitors.

  5. They did such a good job, especially the ones who did it all on their own, impressive. Lucas looks to really be enjoying that cookie. Zoey enjoyed the picture of the butterfly and flowers.

  16. When we are hiking we always assume the people wearing flip flops aren't even thinking and will quickly turn around. Guess these photographs prove me wrong. But I still don't think it's a good idea. Too much risk of injury especially when you have the little ones in tow.

Beautiful photographs and hooray for hardy children who love the outdoors. And to the parents who encourage them. And to the grandparents who started it all.
