The Wearing of the Orange

Hunting season has begun (only bow hunting so far), making the wildlife wary. All of us, including Daisy, donned hunter orange for our ride north of Strawberry Reservoir last week.
Since our last ride there in July, the predominant pink and blue wildflowers have given way to an abundance of yellow and white, goldeneye and yarrow,
and tall coneflowers.
Cows still graze in the high country, but the ranchers that hold the grazing permit will move their stock to lower altitudes soon.
We rode 16 miles and gained 4200 feet in altitude (1400 m) to see: Strawberry Reservoir to the south,
the Wasatch Range to the west,
and the glory of the high Uintas to the northeast.
We'll try to visit again in September, when the elk bulls bugle their mating call and aspen turn gold.

  12. Hi Janie... Here in Tennessee, we are all about ORANGE these days also---but not for the reasons you wear orange. We wear it to support our Tennessee Orange Volunteers. We have a new coach this year, so we are all waiting to see what he/they can do. I don't have alot of confidence --but it is exciting.

Love your photos from that gorgeous area of the country.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. The eye picks up yellow and orange first ... don't ask me why: but that's why flowers and traffic signs are that color. Apparently humans obtained ability to see colors in order to find berries and fruits ... that's what I read anyhow. Yes, fall will be setting in soon ... except here in Florida. Many weeks to go!

  23. I always love your wonderful rides but am not a fan of the hunting season where it is unsafe for children abd animals to be outdoors. When we lived in Vermont, we had hunters shoot clear across our yard from one hillside to another.
