Last fall, we rode in an area known as Blindstream Ridge, on the southern edge of the Uinta Mountains.
Steve, Boss, and Daisy were willing to venture closer to the dropoff.
The canyon behind us had a steep dropoff. I didn't go too close to the edge. (Steve gets photo credit for this one of me and my horse Mischief.)
Steve, Boss, and Daisy were willing to venture closer to the dropoff.
We rode across a huge plateau going and coming from the viewpoints. The orange is to make sure the hunters know we're not deer or elk.
Many of my photos have horse ears in the foreground. I could crop them out, but I think it adds interest and maybe puts the viewer in touch with my horseback position. In spite of crossing some dirt roads, we were all alone on this ride, just us, big country, and big sky.

Fantastic skywatch shots, what a beautiful place to go horseback riding. Thanks for sharing.

These are beautiful pictures of a wilde country, a place where you can take deep breath. I love the horse ears in the picture it makes it very personal. The pictures also show the pleasure of the riders and horses beeing out there under a wide sky.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are breath-taking. What gorgeous skies - and I love the horses. I like the ears in the foreground too.
ReplyDeleteLove that you were in the photos and the horses as well! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos taken on horseback! And, yes, I wouldn't want to get too close to the edge of the cliff on a horse named Mischief. :)
ReplyDeleteThe scenery in the first one was impressive indeed, but I don't know if I would have risked the horse...
ReplyDeleteWonderful landscape. Pretty sky.
ReplyDeletewhat stunning photos and thanks for the explanation on the orange, I was wondering..........you live in a lovely area.

ReplyDeleteThe scenery and all that sky is breathtaking. How amazing to see it all on horseback.
ReplyDeleteI think the horses ears are so cute in the photos...don't crop them, please.
One other place I'd think would be touchy on a horse -- have you folks ridden Shale Dugway on the upper Uinta River?
ReplyDeleteNow thats what I call freedom. Great SWF pictures great land, great skies, great horses.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit.
Have a great week.
Haha, I saw a comment from Tess and I was like, huh, I don't remember leaving that comment. Turns out there are other Tesses around and I'm so glad because the alternative would be that I was losing my mind. Great pictures. I like the brooding sky above you in the first pic. Mischief looks especially noble here.
ReplyDeleteRiding a horse must give you a free feeling !
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend !

ReplyDeleteJanie,
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of your horseback riding trip to Blindstream Ridge are perfect examples of why I joined the SkyWatch Friday Community.
I would never have known such a beautiful place exsisted if not for you sharing your trip.
Thank you and keep sharing your adventures in pictures.
PKH
don't crop anything out, they are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteJanie, what beautiful skies. As much as I love my island I love the wide open skies of the prairies and foothills. Come visit anytime, I will be glad to show you around. We have some pretty good fishing!
ReplyDeleteSmiles and have a great weekend!
Anonymous: I've heard the Shale Dugway is doable on horseback with good steady stock and a dry trail. Haven't tried it, though. My sons have been there hiking. We'd probably go into Gilbert/Painter Basin via Fox Queant Pass with the horses.
