I took this photo a couple of years ago, but it tells the story of our early morning weather better than anything else I have to offer.
Boss seems very tolerant of the starlings this morning. These birds hang around to pick seeds out of the hay, then fly up to perch on Boss's back, where his dark color soaks up a little warmth from the sun.
The birds look content up there. As of mid-morning, we have no wind, clear skies, and we've warmed up to 0 degrees. No new snow here, but the mountains north of us got some.
Hope everyone is staying warm out there in blogland.
Aw! I love Boss acting like a couch/ stove for the starlings! What a fun, terrific capture, Janie! I feel like such wimp whining about the weather when ours really isn't THAT cold, just gray, grim, chill and damp! Ah, well spring is on its way!!! Have a great weekend! Stay warm!

Fantastically stunning intro photo, love all that warm color in the cold! Very pleasant and heartening to see horse and birds getting along and the horse being willing to help out providing warmth when called upon. Serves as a good example to us all.
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing picture!
ReplyDeleteBrrr! Sounds like we are much warmer than you. Not something I would have expected, but with all the crazy weather it seems Alaska has it the best right now! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteJanie that first photo is right out of my memory! I remember vividly standing at the bus stop and the horses snorting vapor. I just love it!
ReplyDeleteIncredible pictures! I cannot imagine living in that kind of cold.. Never have experienced it. Stay safe and warm and enjoy the beauty.
ReplyDeleteLove to you

I've Become My Mother
That first shot tells it all. I don't blame the birds for taking advantage of Boss' warm. I'd cuddle with him too in those temps. Finally up to 36 here.
ReplyDeleteIn the south, we call that "Plum Cold" Janie.... Poor Boss.. He has to stay out in the cold and then share his body with the birds.... My My --what a good horsie.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Brrrr, that is way too cold for me! I love the first pic of Boss!
ReplyDeleteEW! -25°F is COLD! And I was complaining this morning about walking the dog at 3°F. Yes it was plus 3°F!
ReplyDeleteYour weather is entirely too cold for me! I guess I've lived in the South too long. It was nice of Boss to help the Starlings stay warm.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos Janie...I guess I should stop complaining about our weather....brrr yours is colder....
ReplyDeleteThat is still a great picture of Boss! Ready for spring yet? I am. You were right about the direction to my house!
ReplyDeleteIt has been so super cold! I hope I make it till spring. At least January is over. Whew!
ReplyDeleteEgads, -25 is so cold! The starling on Boss's back looks like he's lying down to warm his feet too.
ReplyDelete-25! that's absurd! And absolutely way too cold! Yikes! That first photo is awesome! How cool is that!?
ReplyDeleteAnother stunning picture. Since you are experiencing such a cold weather, I send you warm regards!
ReplyDeleteMy word, that IS cold. I love your first photo with Boss's breath condensing in the air - great colours.
ReplyDeleteStarlings are such freeloaders. We only got down to about minus five, supposedly (my thermometer said plus five as the low).
ReplyDeleteWow, I can not fathom what -25 degree must feel like, Janie. Although looking at Boss he seems quite content.. along with the starlings who are getting a free meal and ride.. with no cold feet.
ReplyDeleteHappy trail dreaming,
Pam
Those photos are amazing. Love them both.
ReplyDelete"warmed up to 0" ??????
Yikes!!!
I LUV the dragon breath! And the starlings. We're actually up to 18 degrees this morning but it's going to get cold, again. Oh well...
ReplyDeleteAs a horse would say: "Brrrrrrr, That's cold!" Okay, maybe just the first part. :^)
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is amazing! It was -20 here on Thursday morning. I didn't go outside!
ReplyDeleteInteresting that the starlings like to sit on the horse's back to soak up the sun. Isn't nature clever?
ReplyDeleteThat first shot is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI had to go back and look again....cool photos...
