Y is for Young(er)

Wasn’t it only yesterday when we were young?
Then we sang Yankee Doodle, yabbered about our pretend games, and wished on yonder star.
The years passed and we discovered yin and yang.
Yes, we raised youngsters, fed them milk and yellow yolk, and celebrated Yuletides each year. They grew like yeast dough, rising before our eyes.
Then they, too, discovered a yen for opposites.
And grew their own young.
Now they’re yuppies eating yogurt and yams, cruising Yahoo, fencing their yards, taking the youngsters to the YWCA for swimming lessons.
While we tell yarns, yawn, and wish on yonder star … for them, and for those who are yet young(er).
Y is for Yesteryear. Yesterday. Yielding to tomorrow.

  1. The great French singer Charles Aznavour has a very fine song called "Hier encore". The English version is called "Yesterday once more". It says it all - as you have.

    A very nice post.
