Remember the swallow nest on my porch? Just yesterday I was thinking it was past time for any eggs to hatch.
Today, sure enough, I saw a tiny head and open beak peeking out.
Mom was watching anxiously, sometimes sitting on a nearby perching, sometimes flying around with Dad.
I interfered long enough to snap a few photos.
While standing on a stool risking my neck to get high enough to see and photograph anything that moved in the nest, I noticed a second little head!

Stay tuned. They should fledge in 18-21 days.

Ha, those pictures are funny with just the tiny beak/s sticking out! How cute.
ReplyDeleteHow cute!! They must have been hungry.
ReplyDeleteAww, that is so cute. What a great photo, thanks for risking your neck and be careful next time.

You got a couple of great pictures by risking your neck, but do be careful when doing that. We have three baby brown thrashers and two very protective parents in a bush in our front yard.
ReplyDeleteOh how sweet, Janie.... They are just so cute. We just got home--and I checked my Thrasher nest... Couldn't see the babies but they are still there since Mama or Daddy hissed at us. I'm glad they didn't fledge today.
ReplyDeleteHave a great 4th.
Hugs,
Betsy
Those little baby bird heads are so cute.
ReplyDeleteAlright, they hatched. I'll bet Mom and Dad were not to happy with you. But glad you got some shots of the little mouths. They might have thought you'd come to feed them some tasty morsel.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing to have the opportunity to witness! Hope we'll get to see photos of those babies up and growing soon. Happy 4th! Have a great weekend! :-)
ReplyDeletewhat a cute little bird's head peeking out. lovely post.
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting.
ReplyDeleteThese are just great shots. It is such a joy to have new life around us....even when they are messy and noisy! We have a nest of baby Ravens that just don't stop calling for more in the tree behind us. Thanks for sharing.

These shots are wonderful! I love the little heads just poking out and mom looking on close by. Babies are so much fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! How long will they stay in the nest? Our pigeon babies in Africa are out after only twelve days!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. It has been a long time since I've seen those big hungry mouths in a nest.
ReplyDeleteVery nice shots! This reminds me of my grandparent's farmhouse when I was a child. THey also had some swallow nests under the roofs! How well you captured those lovely hungrey mouths :)
ReplyDeleteEsther, I added the time until fledging (18-21 days) to the post.
ReplyDeleteSwallows' nests are pretty amazing structures. Cute seeing the little beaks showing.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute shot with the little mouths poking out...looking for some snacks!!!
