Trail Bugging

We came across some interesting insects while on our Utah trails last summer.
Colorful beetles on rabbitbrush, at 4500 feet near the Green River:

Gold wasps and black wasp in the same area:

More beetles. These were at about 8,000 feet.

We've never been able to identify this plant with lavendar blossoms. The entire plant is shown below for size. Anybody know what it is?
Insects may not be as cute and huggable as kittens or puppies, but bugs need lovin', too!

  6. Very interesting and colorful bugs. I don't mind bugs as long as they don't bite me. We need them too and they are fun to photograph. Beautiful pictures!

  8. Love your post with the wildflowers and insects. I am intrigued and find insects utterly interesting and have observed many in my garden. Unfortunately I can not name your bush I am not familiar with your native flowers. Your photos are excellent. I like your outdoor enthusiasm and your knowledge of the country site.

  9. Oh Janie, My son would love this post. My oldest son has loved bugs his entire life. I'm not much into them--but the ones you took are quite unique.

    Thanks!
    Hugs,

  10. Bugs are really cool (as long as you don't have to share your sleeping arrangements with them!)

  17. Wonderful shots Janie.

By the way the cats wouldn't know what to do with those ducks as they have never been out doors. They would probably run and hide under the bed LOL
