Sweet Dreams

All 5 of our neighbor's horses were laid out near the fence.
They didn't move a muscle as I approached them with a camera.
I heard at least two of them softly snoring...
Their dreams must have been sweet.
40 degrees and sunny.  How perfect for a little late morning shut-eye.
"Huh?  Who's that?  So, I have hay hair.  What of it, camera lady?"

  1. too cute..love the hay hair...when we first moved in here our neighbor had horses...one of them was laid out like that...I thought it was dead...but I said something and it jumped up scared both of us..

  2. They look like a giant pinwheel laid out like that.

  3. Oh my, had I come up upon that scene I would have thought them dead. Looks like the aftermath of a Calvary and Indian battle. Pretty neat.

  4. I've had days when I felt like this. Fortunately I don't have to worry about hay hair (no hair!).

  5. Oh my gosh..that is the cutest thing ever!!! Hay hair and all.
I hardly ever see a horse laying down...it's nice to see that they can 'chill' out now and then!

  6. Those are funny pics! I like the ones that show the mouths hanging slightly open.

  7. What a great photo op you had! They were just so relaxed and happy. That's nice! I have hay hair almost every morning and I'm not a horse - ha!

  8. Were you freaked out at first? I would have been. Lol

Horses tend to look slightly ghastly when they're laid out like that. It's funny when they neigh in their sleep though.

  9. That's not something seen everyday. Our horses hardly ever laid down. To catch 5 was very lucky. They looks so different sleeping than awake. I guess I do too. :)

  10. Wow---all of the horses were definitely in dreamland. I can hear that one looking at you saying: "Well, Camera Lady, leave us alone!"

    Great post....Have a great weekend.

  11. I'm jealous of that sunshine. The one day I could see a shadow here I pulled up my sleeves, lay down on a bench, an soaked it in--the Chinese students walking past in their down coats (air temp is c. 50 deg F) thought I was nuts.

  12. Funny! I thought they slept standing up? Or is that the cow?

  13. At first glance it was almost scary to see them laying down with their eyes closed.. but instantly i knew it was siesta time at the Hay Corral.
    Great shots, Janie.

  15. What fun shots these are! All sleeping at one time is unusual to see, as is the pleasant weather this time of year!

  16. love seeing them sprawled out like that!
i've most often found that one horse will always be standing while the others are passed out.... and I've wondered it that is a total coincidence or if that's a wild horse gene thing. Once in a while, though, I've caught them all down and completely passed out like these guys.

  17. Even little smiles on their faces - must have been dreaming of greener pastures!

  18. What an interesting post. Based on my equestrian knowledge (which is way more limited than yours) horses rarely lie down in the first place, much less five of them at the same time.

  22. Love this post, Janie. They must know and trust you to let you get so close before stirring.
