Snowy Trail in July

We spent the weekend visiting with two pretty girls.
The littlest one didn't seem to mind hanging out with the grands.
On July 4th, we drove up past Snowbird Ski Resort, where lifts were open for those who still long for winter sports.  There were quite a few skiers on the slopes.  We hiked on a trail near the town of Alta, starting at about 9000 feet.  Not surprisingly, considering this year's heavy snow pack, the path became impassable after less than a mile.
The sky was cloudy, but the sun shone through to highlight the Wasatch peaks and the exquisite beauty of our country on Independence Day.

  1. Oh, that look, Janie - that all-knowing look. She has grown so quickly from a baby to a toddler taking stock of her surroundings. Such a cutie! I liked seeing the snow at Alta. I believe A-basin here in Summit was still open over the 4th. We met with muddy trails and scraps of snow on a hike on our back trail this morning.

Looks like it was a comfortable day for hiking with the cloud cover.

  9. oh the little one has grown so much! The weather this year is crazy. It snowed on us up on top of the Manti. I'm kind of thinking winter will not end in the high elevations this year. It usually starts snowing on top in September. It's July so that really only leaves maybe one month without snow--ubelievable.

  11. Your granddaughter has beautiful blue eyes -- she's adorable. We were impressed with the snow we found on the mountaintops in Utah. To tell the truth, we were very impressed with the beauty of your state.
