Snow-Free (Almost!) Refuge

Finally, we have a place to ride locally.  The dirt roads are clear, with the ground still moist and soft.  The above photo was taken at Leota Overlook with the Green River below us.  As you can see, one big patch of snow remains. Both horses are looking a little rugged, still hairy, and sweaty from a run up the hill.
We saw a big group of Sandhill Cranes down near the river, but the photos didn't turn out.
This was Mischief's first ride this year.  (He's older, so I haven't taken him on the multi-day rides in Canyonlands.) He seemed to enjoy going for a run.  On his break, he checked out Steve for treats.

Cute he checks for treats....he didn't forget that part of the rides;))

  2. Steve looks dressed for the cold and so does Mischief; he seems to still have his winter coat.
I like that header, Canyon Lands? We'll be headed that way in a few weeks, hoping for nice weather.

  3. I'm glad you could get out too, although it looks like we could pick up a little snow this week. The wind is howling here.

  4. I could look at the horses & scenery all day, Janie. You can never know the joy I get from your taking me along on your rides.

    Happy spring!

  7. Yay for spring! Mischief looks really tiny because of the angle of that picture. Dainty boy.

  9. I see Steve's still bundled against the cold. I'm glad your snow is melting, Janie - don't send any my way!

  10. Hi Janie, I know you are thrilled to be back home --but I certainly enjoyed your Canyonlands visits....

Glad most of the snow is gone... And I'm sure that Mischief is glad to be back on the trail.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. I'm glad that you can now go on rides nearer home. That should mean you can get out more often and have more pictures to share with us.
Did Mischief get his treat? I hope so.

  12. Lucky you. Dry trails. We're just a few days away from leaving for Sedona and I PRAY we have good weather. But, I certainly wish we could have had more time to get the horses (and my rear end!) in riding shape before departure. :))

  14. Good to see Mischief out and nice to have (almost) snow free land near to home.

I'd almost rather roll in that snow than drip in this humidity.

  15. Mischief looks like a sweet horse. But perhaps you don't call him mischief for nothing.

  18. Our pony will actually "frisk" Gene for treats. It's pretty funny. She also gives kisses, unrelated to treats. I think she'd like to be a lap cat.

  22. Janie-love the spring weather coming your way. We got 5.5 inches of rain on Sunday, no electricity for almost 6 hours. Now the trails are too wet to ride so a few brave souls have taken to the streets.
Enjoy. Looking forward to your warmer rides.
