Best Insulation

With wind chill, the morning's temperature is well below zero, but Boss stays warm and cozy in his dun brown horsehair coat, just furry enough, with a black line down the back, black accent around the eyes, black stockings and subtle zebra stripes on the legs.  A quirky lopsided star on his forehead completes the ensemble.  This handsome coat is designed by C.*, and amazingly suited to all conditions.
As you can see, the coat provides so much insulation that Boss's body heat does not melt the snow on his back.  The coat is cleverly devised so that Boss himself can adapt his coat's thickness to seasonal conditions, simply by growing more horsehair, or shedding the extra.  Who could imagine a more ingenious and convenient strategy?
* C. = Creator.  C. also goes by numerous other names, depending on one's beliefs, culture or linguistic preference.

  3. Boss is a really handsome fella. Thanks for letting me know that those coats keep horses warm in all seasons. I pass the horses around here and sometimes there are ones with coats on and others not. Those are the ones I have worried about, but apparently don't need to any more. I'm glad I read today's post.

  7. Isn't that just awesome, Janie???? I worry about our critters who live outside during the frigid winters. YET--they were made to withstand low temps and high ones... That is fantastic... Great picture of Beautiful Boss.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. It's amazing how they stay warm. Us humans are whimpy in comparison for sure.

  9. With all the snow storm in the North America, you must hope that you have a coat like Boss too. Happy Chinese New Year!

  10. I love Boss's stylish and practical weather protection. It was so cold outside this morning it hurt my lungs to breath. I wonder if the horses ever have that problem? I remember seeing puffs of vapor from our horses nostrils on cold mornings.

  11. Boss has a lovely winter coat. Our pony gets a lot of fur but Prince does not -- too much TB wimp in him. :)

  12. I've often wondered how horses could stand being out in such cold. Thank you for explaining it.
