Have you ever seen an antelope wearing a radio collar and sporting a red ear tag?
We never had until we spotted this guy in Nine Mile Canyon.
We also saw a herd of deer grazing in a meadow. They seemed as tame as cows. Cliffs and castle rocks loomed behind them:
We'll be taking a blogging break to spend time with family for the next couple of weeks.

Don't know why the antelope is marked. I know that some of the elk at Cataloochie are marked and we read that the original ones in the valley (which were brought there from somewhere out west) were marked...

ReplyDeletebtw . . . my dad was a big game manager and would sometimes take us along during tagging/radio collaring expeditions. I've even benn along when he tracked a bear signal. My brother (who is also a big game manager) actually crawled down into the den, put the mama bear to sleep, and weighed and measured the cubs. That was an exciting trip. I was also with my dad one time when he was tracking a year old moose transplant. She had a calf with her when we found her. That was one of my favorite radio collar experiences. My scariest was transporting a collared elk that woke up in the trailer and was not happy.
