Christmas Treat

Since we've lived in Utah, one of our family traditions has been to trek out into the national forest to find a Christmas tree.
Some years, the snow is deep, but not this year.  It was easy to get to 9500 feet by road.
After a short hike and some searching, we found a pretty little tree.
Here it is, all dressed up.  We have our Christmas "treat", as my daughter used to call the tree when she was little.
P.S.  We had snow over the weekend!

  2. That looks a lot more fun than having to wrestle your tree of choice from a pile at a huge hardware store!

  3. Oh Janie, I love your tree---and to think, it is truly a 'fresh' one....We cut down our own tree when my kids were teens. We would go out in the woods and do what you did--find the perfect tree.

Bet your house smells SO good That is what I LOVE about live trees...

    LOVE IT.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Your tree is lovely Janie. Plus stockings for all. How sweet.

I remember going into the NF with permit in hand to find just the right tree. Now, I'm very happy with my 10" fake covered in rhinestone earings.

  11. What a wonderful Christmas treat! My dad always took us tree hunting. My husband wasn't into that so much and so I now put up fake trees and burn a pine scented candle. It would be a real treat for me to have a pretty little spruce again. Enjoy.

  12. His fun to find your own tree...and that is legal? The best we can do here to get a fresh tree is visit a tree farm. We have done that for many years. Great post and photos!

  16. How nice, we used to go to the tree farm to select and cut a Christmas tree to bring back home. We love the smell. Now we have a plastic one in the basement of of our Cape home and people hardly celebrate Christmas in Taiwan.

  18. Hi Janie. It's good to be back and see your blog again. Your Christmas tree adventure reminds me of the year my dad and I went up the hill behind their home and cut down our own tree. We only did that once, but I've always remembered. Definitely a "treat!"

Also, just wanted to say "thank you so much" for your continued visits to my blog while I was away. It meant a lot to see your comments...kinda kept me connected to home and normalcy. *Huge hugs* to you!

  21. Brings back a lot of memories. Going out in the woods to get our tree. Dad always rearranged the branches. He would cut them off and then drill holes to reinsert them elsewhere.

  26. What a beautiful tree! We usually get a permit and chop one down in the National Forest, but we are moving next week, leaving our apartment and buying a condo. Not sure we'll get to put one up this year!
