Summer in the High Country

July 20, 2005
Black's Fork, High Uinta Wilderness, Utah.
Indian paintbrush in the foreground:
This hanging valley is about 10,000 feet, well above the level of Blacks Fork. From a distance, we saw a herd of elk resting on the snow at the upper end of the valley.

We'll plan a trip somewhere in the High Uintas this summer. Can't wait!

Frisky Fellas

The snow's mostly melted in the pasture, and with a sunny sky, a light wind, and temperatures in the 30's, the horses are feeling their oats. Here they are, enjoying their first good run since snow covered the ground in early December.

Daisy had some fun, too, running with her horse friends.

You can see a dusting of snow on the lower mountains,
and quite a bit of snow up high. The sky over the Uintas is dark, and a storm is predicted, so its good the horses got their exercise today.
